Hey, this is Kirsten. It’s my first experience at blogging. Scott said I could take over his blog since he’s now into Twitter. We’ll see how it goes.

Anyway, last night Scott did a wedding in Naples and I tagged along. After the ceremony, we decided to not go to the reception but instead go out for dinner. We ended up going to Bonefish (yum). While we were waiting for our table, we were sitting outside holding hands and talking. It was a beautiful night. There was a cool breeze and we didn’t get eaten by mosquitos – unusual for Florida. We were waiting for a table when we noticed a couple on a “date”. They were sitting next to one another and both of them were on their iPhones. They were not talking on it, I don’t know, maybe they were playing Angry Birds or skee-ball. The point is that for the 30 minutes we were outside waiting, they never once looked at each other or talked to one another. Interesting. One time at the same place, we noticed a couple waiting for a table and they were both outside reading a book – and not the same book. They were just sitting there reading.

It got us thinking. In our relationships, are we just having dinner or are we on a date? Are we going through the motions of date night or are we intentional about connecting with one another. I hope that we are intentional. Rule of thumb on date night – phones off limits (unless the kids call), look at one another, talk about things other than work or the kids and make the night count. It’s that important. I don’t want to be that couple that takes a book when I go out for dinner with my husband or plays Angry Birds on my iPod. I want to be that couple that sits close, holds hands, and talks to one another. That just doesn’t happen though. We have to be proactive in making our marriage amazing. Thanks for listening.
